   Ruth Bennett (nee Kerutt), 86, a longtime Glen Ridge Resident passed away on June 29.
  Ruth is predeceased by her husband Robert H. Bennett who passed away in 1963 and her parents Else & Frederick Kerutt.  Ruth is survived by her loving daughter Elise and her husband Paul Varga.
   Ruth was a School Secretary at the Forest Ave School in Glen Ridge and an organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. She loved to cook and was an avid traveler.  She will be missed by family and friends.

   He was born in Passaic, N.J., on March 14, 1932, son of Edward L. and Grace (Hankin) Sr.,
Lester was a US Army Korean War Veteran.
He was a self-employed building supply distributor for E.L. Congdon & Sons Lumber Co. in West Orange, N.J.
Lester was a member of Wallingford Congregational Church, Wallingford Rotary Club and Wallingford American Legion Post 52. He was past Grand Marshal of Wallingford Memorial Day Parade and past president of West Orange Rotary Club.
   Surviving are his wife, Audrey (Cooper) Congdon, of East Wallingford, Vt.; two daughters, Carol Congdon of East Wallingford, and Diane Jones of Gaithersburg, Md.; a son, Edward Congdon of Verona, N.J.; a brother, Richard Congdon of Chester, N.J.: a sister, Patricia Wightman of Bath, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Grace Kerr, and grandson, Reid Jones.
   Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Wallingford Rotary Club, 96 Main St., Wallingford, Vt. 05773. Arrangements are by Clifford Funeral Home, Rutland, Vt

   She worked as a secretary for Marcus-Brody Law Firm in Roseland until retirement.
   She was the wife of Oscar (Butch) Dohm, mother of John and his wife Kathleen, James and his wife Valerie, Jennifer Foltmann and Janine Angor and her husband John, sister of Richard Ziegler and Mary Downey.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren.

   Norman A. Ubhaus, 96, of Maplewood, N.J., passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Union, N.J. Funeral service was held at The Jacob Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Monday, July 18. Interment was in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Norman was born in Irvington, N.J., and resided in Maplewood for 67 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was a fireman with the Maplewood Fire Department from 1953 to 1981 and a lifetime member of the NJ State Fireman’s Association. A lifetime member of the South Orange Elks, he was chairman of its Special Children’s Committee for many years. He was a charter member of the Maplewood Memorial VFW Post 10201.
Norman was the beloved husband of the late Ruth M. Lawlor Ubhaus; devoted father of Susan Doyle and her husband, Michael, and the late Nancy Baechle and her husband, Robert; loving grandfather of Michael and his wife, Jolie, Matthew, Justin and his wife, Holly and Ryan Doyle, Erica Borroto and her husband, Clemente, and Laura Halleck and her husband, Bill, and dear brother of the late Edna Corbin. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. James Patrick Doyle

   James Patrick Doyle, 81, died Thursday June 16, 2016 in San Francisco following a battle with cancer. During his final days he was lucid and pain free and died peacefully with his family by his side at home as was his wish.
   He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Ferrera); two sons John (Lori) and Jim (Cindy Fales); a daughter, Margaret (Marc); and five treasured grandchildren, Jack, Will, Ellie, Elisabeth and Michael. He is also survived by two sisters, Marie O’Grady and Nancy Schenk, and a brother, Robert Doyle.
  Born and raised in Bloomfield NJ, he was the son of James and Jane (Fleming) Doyle. After graduating from Bloomfield High in 1953 he went on to attend college at Seton Hall University where he worked full time to pay for his education. He later earned an MBA from Seton Hall University as well. Interspersed with his education, Jim served in the Army from 1955-1957, including a tour in Reykjavik, Iceland. Jim met Mary Ann at the Jersey Shore in 1957 and they were married by Bishop James A. McNulty at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Newark NJ.
   Jim began his professional career at Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. followed by stints at The Newark News, Indian Head Industries, Inc., Johnson & Johnson and The American Can Company. Later, in 1973, he accepted a job as AVP/Corporate Credit Manager at Crown Zellerbach in San Francisco, opening the door to a new career and a life that he happily embraced in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jim went on to found his own company, JPD Financial, in 1984 a company that is still in operation today and run by his son, John.
   During his early years on the West Coast, Jim became an active member of both the Pacific Club and Olympic Club where he met some of his life-long friends and had many great memories – perhaps none more special than his hole-in- one on the Olympic Club Ocean Course when he was 71 years old. An avid sports fan; Jim cheered on the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants and could often be found watching the latest golf tournament. He enjoyed traveling, having visited much of the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America during the course of his lifetime. He loved to explore new things and meet new people.
   Jim was blessed with a family and friends that loved him dearly. His wit, style and love of life were contagious. He will be greatly missed.
  Memorial donations in Jim’s memory to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939. Private Services were held.

   Born in Trenton, Jack lived in Hamilton and most of his life in Bloomfield. He was an Attorney at the John P. McDermott Law Office in Bloomfield. Before that he was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War as well as a graduate of Seton Hall University and John Marshall Law School. At Seton Hall he was a brother of Phi Kappa Theta.
   Jack was the husband of Michele McDermott (nee McGovern) for 42 years; father of Kathleen (Katie) McDermott, Timothy (Timmy) McDermott and his fiancee Debi Prucell; brother of Carol Snyder and the late William H. McDermott Jr.; brother in law of Elmo Snyder and Margaret McDermott. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Obit Logo Gail Longo   Gail F. Longo, 76, formerly of West Orange passed away on Tuesday, the 2nd of August 2016, at Chandler Memory Care in the presence of one of her twin daughters, Gina.
   Gail moved to West Orange in 1962 and worked at the West Orange Public Library 1970 until her retirement in 2003.  Gail moved to the SunBird community in Chandler, Arizona, after retiring from the Library and was active in many of its activities and clubs.
   Gail was a very beloved mother and is survived by her twin daughters, Gina McKinley and Cynthia O’Donoghue, her sons in law Dan McKinley and Gerard O’Donoghue, and her grandchildren Jeffrey and Kristin McKinley.

   Martha Ellen Kenney (nee Quinn), passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at age 88.    Born in Arlington, Mass. to Joseph and Alice Quinn, Mrs. Kenney moved to Bloomfield, NJ in 1957 with her husband Lawrence. She was a graduate of Emmanuel College and earned her Master’s degree in biology from Boston College. Since 1986, she volunteered as a reader for the American Foundation for the Blind in New York City. For nearly 40 years, she performed as an organist and choir director for several churches in the area.
   Mrs. Kenney was, for 59 years, the beloved wife of recently deceased Lawrence J. Kenney and is survived by her son Francis Xavier and his wife Sylvia; her daughter Maura Kenney Scollo and her husband Joseph; her grandchildren Megan, Christopher, Mia and Ava, and her sister, Winifred Mehl of Florida.

She was also the former President of the Watchung Plaza Association as well as an active member of the Montclair Lions Club.
   Elizabeth was the Wife of John C. Morris; mother of Julie Cantill O’Connor and her fiance Brian Silvoy; sister of Honora McGowan Fleming and her husband Paul, Pamela Yulke and her husband Milton, and Vincent Dailey and his wife Susan; daughter of the late Vincent and Nora (McGrath) Dailey; and grandmother of Ryan Dailey O’Connor and Gavin Dailey O’Connor.    Ann Murray, 104, passed away peacefully with her daughter Julia by her side on Monday, August 15, 2016 in West Orange, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Ann grew up in Newark, and lived in East Orange for 50 years, before settling in West Orange. She attended and graduated from Upsala College in East Orange. She taught Biology in the Newark School System for 40 years. In her retirement, Ann volunteered at numerous places including the Newark Museum, St. Barnabas Medical Center, and the Summit Ridge Nursing Home. She was also a member of the West Orange Women’s Club and a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Parish, West Orange. In her free time, Ann enjoyed reading, traveling the world, the arts, and knitting.
   Ann was predeceased by beloved husband Eugene J. Murray. She is survived by her loving daughters Ann Bengivenni (Bruce) and Julia Caprario (Louis), her grandchildren John, Dana, Laura, and Joseph, and her great-grandchildren Braeden and Jonathan, as well as many extended family members.
       Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 3-7 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 20 at 10AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Avenue, West Orange, NJ, with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange.

   Rita was born on July 6, 1938 to Eleanor and Jerome Vorhies in Bloomfield, NJ. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and went on to work at GE. After marrying her soulmate (the late Edward J Quinlan) in 1957, Rita stayed at home to raise their four children. She later re-entered the workforce at BellSouth in Customer Service for 20 years until retiring in 1998.
   Rita was an amazing mother, devoted wife, wonderful grandmother and great- grandmother, loving sister, and caring friend. Her life was truly dedicated to family in every way. She had a huge heart and always found the positive in everything! Rita kept her sense of humor even in the most trying times. She had a gift for making people smile and brought joy to everyone she met.
   Rita is lovingly remembered by her sister, Katherine Dunn of Atlantic Beach, Fl; her children, Edward J Quinlan, Jr of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Susan Quinlan Agerton of Johns Creek, GA, Karen A Quinlan of Austin, TX, and Michael P Quinlan, Sr of Lake Worth, FL; her grandchildren, Justin D Titus and wife Ginger, Brittany S Quinlan, Trevor J Quinlan and fiancée Katie LeMaster, Brad F Agerton, Austin NAgerton, Danielle Quinlan Wampole, Michael P Quinlan, Jr, Katherine M Quinlan, Jeremy E Quinlan, and Makayla J Riley Quinlan; her great-grandchildren: Camden Titus, Corbin Titus, Hunter Wampole, Gage Wampole, Kaden Quinlan, and Jaxon Quinlan.    Glenn was 60 years young, grew up in West Orange, NJ, previously lived in Livingston, NJ and currently resided in New Providence, NJ. He graduated from West Orange High School and Old Dominion University prior to starting a successful career as an Executive in the women’s wear industry in New York City. Glenn served as a Senior Executive for a major Division of Liz Claiborne for over 12 years where he was primarily responsible for the introduction and management of various lines into department stores. Later, he joined Adrianna Papell, as President of their Sportswear Division and was responsible for creating and bringing this new Division to market.
   Glenn was a joy to be with, always smiling, could be found on the golf course as much as possible or creating and tending the gardens and lawn around his home. People came away from interactions with Glenn feeling “everything will work out” and that living life this moment is what is important. He found the love of his life with Lynn and was so proud to be her true partner in life. He often referred to Lindi as “his crusader who was out to save the world”, and she is doing just that.
   He will be missed and held in the hearts of all of his friends and family, including his nephew,Evan Shepard and wife Bre, his niece Taryn Fabian and husband Mike and Grand Niece Addilynn Grace, his sister-in- law Dawn Shepard, his cousins and close friends Victor Lewis and wife Debbie, and Marc Merryfield and wife Kelly.

   Born in Detroit MI, she graduated from St Luke’s School of Nursing in New York City, where she met her husband Hugh while he was attending Columbia University.   Ila resided in Glen Ridge, NJ for over 30 years, raising her family and working as a surgical nurse and dental assistant, and was a hospice volunteer for 10 years.  Ila was a member of GRCC and  various other clubs and organizations and was an avid sports enthusiast. After retiring,  she and her husband toured the country via RV then relocated to Seneca, SC where she was a member of St. Mark’s  Methodist Church and was a volunteer with hospice, a school reading program and St Mark’s Acolyte Program.  Ila was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years,  and is survived by her three daughters, Ivy Richmond and her husband Michael, Bonnie Kittle and her partner Brian Karger and Nancy Barry and her husband Joseph; her loving grandchildren, Jessica Bronzert, Colin O’Grady; Nick and Stasi Richmond; Andrew and Jason Buijs; and Daniel, Emma and Cody Barry, and 7 great grandchildren.
    A family memorial service will be planned at a future date.

She was the wife of the late John Joseph Barth.
   Born in Maspeth, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Anita (Reed) Schreyer.
   Thelma worked as a bookkeeper for McGraw Edison in Belleville NJ for several years. She also worked as an operator at Bell Telephone in Bloomfield, NJ. Prior to her careers, she was an avid homemaker raising her children in her earlier years.
   She graduated from Belleville High School in 1948. Thelma was a Den mother in Scouting where she would run groups for several years. She enjoyed camping, reading, and was an extensive traveler.
   Prior to residing in Gilbert, she was formerly a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, NJ.
   She is survived by a son, David Barth and wife Ingrid of Glen Ridge, NJ; a daughter, Gail Garrison of Gilbert; a brother, Norman Barth and wife Donna of Lake Ariel, PA; a step-brother, Edwin Schreyer of Belleville, NJ; four grandchildren, Trent Garrison, Zoie Garrison, Demi Garrison, and John Edward Barth. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Jeanne R. Lambert.
   A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27 at 12:15 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 U.S. 209, Brodheadsville, with Rev. Michael Quinnan officiating. A viewing will be held on Saturday August 27 at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be held in Gilbert Cemetery,

Elizabeth Helen Robinson Anello

  OBIT PHOTO Elizabeth HR AnelloElizabeth Helen Robinson Anello, 70, of Concord, Ca and Reno, Nevada passed away at home on January 12th 2016. She was born on October 3, 1945, the first child of Sam and Helen Anello of West Orange, New Jersey. She graduated from Mountain High School in 1963 and attended Jackson College, Tufts University, majoring in Political Science. After graduation, 1967, she joined the Peace Corps and served for two years in Turkey teaching English. She returned to the Middle East and spent another year teaching English in Iran at the time of the Shah’s Royal Jubilee before the Ayatollah Khomeni Revolution. Returning to the USA, she attended The University of Michigan in Flint and got her Master’s Degree in Social Work. In 1976 she headed west and settled in the Mission District of San Francisco, where she immediately got involved in community activism.
   She worked for the San Francisco Department of Public Health at the Tom Waddell Clinic during the early years of the aids epidemic. During this time and continuing throughout her professional career she was also a champion for the homeless. With marriage to Robbie Robinson and the birth of their son, Nicholas, the couple made their home in Concord California.
   Elizabeth received her Doctorate Degree in Administrative Social Work from the University of California, Berkeley. She worked as Director of Social Workers for Kaiser Permanente Northern California. She also realized the huge significance of all issues related to water in California and became an elected member of the Concord Water Board serving on the Board for many years.
  Elizabeth retired from professional life in 2007 when she was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimers Disease. Betty was a most vibrant and active person and she is very much missed.
   She leaves behind her son Nicholas Robinson, and one granddaughter. She is also survived by her mother, Helen Anello, Bali, Indonesia, her brother and sister in law, John and Margot Anello, Crown Point, New York, sister Nancy Anello, Bali, Indonesia, and sister and brother in law Barbara and Zachariah Adnani, New York City. She was preceded in death by her husband Robbie Robinson.
   A private memorial is planned by the family. Memorial gifts in memory of Elizabeth may be made to The Alzheimers New Jersey fund in her name by visiting their web site alznj.org …..

Fernando Mario Romo

  Fernando Mario Romo, known to everyone as Mario, of West Orange, NJ, formerly of Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY, died on Monday, August 22, 2016 of complications following surgery. He was 74 years old. Mario will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Charlotte Wescott and their daughter, Marina Wescott Romo; and his older daughter, Tamara Romo Griggs from previous marriage to Patience Nicolai. He is survived by his brothers, Daniel and Gabriel Duron. Predeceased by his parents, Efren Romo and Josephine Duron.
   Mario was born in Culver City, CA. He was a photo journalist in Los Angeles back in the 60’s. He relocated to Brooklyn, NY in the 70’s, working for an educational publishing company. Mario and his wife Charlotte were proud retail business owners of Seventh Avenue Framing & Art Supplies, in Park Slope, Brooklyn, for 22 years before retirement. He was an active member of Brooklyn’s Gallery Players Theatre Company, working as stage manager on many shows. When the family relocated to West Orange, NJ, he discovered gardening and reconnected to his first love, photography. Once he retired and had the luxury of time, he became involved in the West Orange Arts Council and the West Orange Downtown Alliance.
   Mario will be remembered by his friends and family for his great sense of humor and, sometimes brutal, honesty…always delivered with a smile.

Lawrence John Hesterfer, 85, of Cape May Court House, NJ died Saturday,September 3rd, 2016. “Larry”, who was born January 4th, 1931 inMontclair, NJ, was the son of the late LeRoy and Mary Hesterfer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the O’Boyle Funeral Home 309 Broad St. Bloomfield on Friday at11:00 a.m.  Interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Visitation is on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.  Please express condolences at www.oboylefuneralhome.com

 Upon graduating from high school, Larry proudly served in the U.S. Marinesduring the Korean War.  After his servicein the Marines, Larry’s love of flowers and talent for arranging them led himto establish and operate several florist shops in the Washington, DC area.  He was especially proud to have contributedfloral arrangements for President Johnson’s daughter’s wedding and John F.Kennedy’s funeral.  Upon returning to NewJersey, Larry enjoyed a successful carreer as an insurance adjuster. Later,after retiring from the insurance business, Larry found that he had a love andtalent for poetry.  He published numerouspoems and won several awards for his poetry.

Preceeding him in death is his partner of 40 years, John Pulaski.

Larry is survived by his sister, Gail Coleman and her husband Rob, ofLancaster, PA.  He is also survived byhis brother Greg and his wife Janice.  Heleaves behind several nieces and nephews namely, Liam, Sean, Tim, Melissa,Marcia, Janette and Wilson.  They willmiss him dearly.

Larry will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful man who was alwaysthe “life of the party”.

   Antonio Rodrigues, 90, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Green Hill Nursing Home in West Orange.

   Born in Massachusetts, Mr. Rodrigues lived most of his life in Bloomfield.
   He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was worked as a lineman for PSE&GCO for many years.
   He was the husband of Eleanor Ott Rodrigues for 68 years, father of the late William Rogers, father in law of Linda Rogers, grandfather of William, Lindsay and Caitlin and great grandfather of Aubrey and Jaxson.
